Virtual reality is more than a new concept; it is a science which settles down in your living rooms. After winning a Golden lion at Cannes and experimenting with holograms inspired by Iron Man at Futur en Seine, Aerys releases Oculus Rex: the very first full-web virtual reality experience powered by WebVR, the wannabe standard for VR on the web.
Babolat Play is the world first connected tennis racket! Presented at the 2014 Cannes Lions international advertising competition, the project won a gold award in the “innovation” category you could check here. And that’s also a victory for Minko, the technology behind Babolat Play’s innovative and sexy data-visualization experience.
Designed by the Ogilvy Lab Paris and implemented by Aerys using Minko, the biggest challenge was to deliver the same meaningful, sexy and vibrant data-visualization experience on all devices. Using Minko, the team has successfully built a native (C++/OpenGL) 3D hardware-accelerated app that would run on mobiles (OpenGL ES), web browsers (HTML5/WebGL) and even cloud servers with the exact same source code.
To support older web browsers the native app is also running server-side, leveraging the power of the cloud to generate stills that can be shared on social media on the fly with uncompromised performances.
Babolat Play is a brilliant example of how hardware accelerated graphics can help creating meaningful data-visualization experiences. With the new power brought by modern web browsers and Minko’s ubiquity, those experiences have the biggest reach ever. It’s also the definitive proof that the collaboration between advertising agencies, such as Ogilvy France, and startups, such as Aerys, can lead to great success stories.
Have you seen the original Iron Man movie? It was released in 2008 and it featured an awesome 3D holographic experience where Tony Stark – our beloved iron-made superhero incarnated by Robert Downey Jr – designs its famous armor suit. This kind of holographic displays have then been re-used in both Iron Man 2 and 3. But get ready, because what was just science fiction 6 years ago is now science fiction!
Using the free and open source <a href="http://minko zoloft pill.io/engine”>Minko engine for 3D rendering with an holographic style and a Leap Motion as a complete hand tracking system (palm + each finger position/orientation), we were able to mimic Tony’s famous toy. The only thing we missed was an actual holographic display. So we used an Oculus Rift to create an awesome virtual reality experience where users think they are actually facing the hologram in a virtual room.
Last month we presented our “Cloud Car” project during Futur en Seine 2013. In the following video you can see our connected car prototype based on our real-time universal networking technology Orbit:
But now it’s your time to get involved! If you have great ideas about how car should be in the future, now is the time to share them with us! To do so, you just have to join our OpenCities project. You just have to:
Eristoff Black Up is an amazing project we made for the French digital agency MNSTR. It was rewarded with a FWA mobile of the day award when it was released and received continuous attention since then. Everyone who tries this app. is amazed by how simple and yet how awesome it is.
We built the app you could try here. using Orbit, our universal real-time connectivity technology.
The 3rd of May, the app. was featured by “Envoyé Spécial”, an investigation TV show on France 2, the first national public TV channel in France. The investigation focused on how alcool brands find new innovative ways to advertise their products.
